The conceptual approach to this project was to pay homage to the site in its original state, echoing the icy and snowy conditions in winter, the massive trees and large stones and boulders abundant in the area. Visitors and the owners are gently reminded that the refined interior has not yet forgotten its wild origins. The custom fireplace, mirroring the majestic scale of the local trees, provides focus and anchors the dramatic main living room. As an icy counterpoint, the custom staircase to the second floor is wrapped in a dramatic 12’ tall, internally lit, fritted glass ‘ice cube’. The family that inhabits the home has a keen sense of style and attention to detail but combines this with family-oriented practicality. Each room began with a high-style foundation that was adapted to ensure that elegance did not come at the expense of children and playful adults alike enjoying the space and making it home.
